Existing Conditions Maps for Jarrett Walker + Associates

In 2018, JWA approached David to create maps of transit service to and from Sandy, Oregon, to help visualize the existing conditions and to form a basemap for their planning in the city.

Graphic Design for CTAA

After working with Tupelo, Mississippi, to redesign their bus system, CTAA commissioned David to produce an easy-to-read and easy-to-use transit map for the system. David also worked with CTAA to create graphics for their report on transit access in Georgetown, Kentucky.

Travel Demand Forecasting

To properly plan transportation capacity, HOVR Systems needed a model of typical use and peak use of their service. David developed a statistical model using a Poisson distribution to determine average daily usage and how crowded a new development might be on the worst day of the year.

Ridership for HOVR Systems

David developed a ridership model for tourist and other service around the Bay Area as part of a business proposal for HOVR Systems. The resulting model showed how riders would respond to different land-use plans, fare models, and headways.

Tompkins County Transit Map

As part of a general push to improve wayfinding and the usefulness of transit in Tompkins County, David hand-drew a prototype map of bus service through the county’s northeastern quadrant. The resulting map received extremely positive reviews from riders.

About David

David Edmondson never met a system he didn’t try to pick apart. Since 2011, David has written extensively about the urban design challenges of Marin County, California on The Greater Marin. He has been published in Streetsblog, and the Marin Independent Journal, and been featured on Planetizen and KQED. In 2017, David earned a master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University.

How I work

My job is to ask questions, first, and create a product, second. I conduct extensive interviews with my clients to ensure I’m hearing what they need and that they understand what they are asking for. My job is to be a partner with my clients, building out something that doesn’t just meet specifications for one project but that can be built upon by others long after my contract has ended.
